Does my horse need Physiotherapy?

Does he or she:
  • Have behavioural issues?
  • Feel stiffer on one rein?
  • Struggle to accept the contact properly?
  • Feel lazy and difficult to keep in front of the leg?
  • Refuse jumps?
  • Knock poles down?

The answer could well be YES! We treat all sorts of conditions:

  • Spinal problems – muscle spasm, joint pain, saddle related pain
  • Joint problems - arthritis, injury, pain, swelling and stiffness
  • Injuries - to muscles, tendons and ligaments
  • Muscle imbalance
  • Fractures - treatment and rehabilitation to facilitate healing and restore function
  • Neurological conditions
  • Wounds
  • Sports injuries
  • Performance difficulties or enhancement in the athletic animal

But we also like to help you manage your horse to keep him/her fit and healthy to do their job.

Horses are assessed and then treated following a goal-related plan. Goals are individual in every case but include:

  • Reduction of pain
  • Improvement in mobility
  • Return to pre-injury strength and flexibility
  • Prevention of reoccurrence

Treatments can include:
  • Joint and soft tissue mobilisation/manipulation
  • Passive stretches
  • Massage
  • Reflex inhibition
  • Myofascial release
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Electrical muscle stimulation
  • Exercise therapy
The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 states that only a veterinary surgeon or someone authorised by one can treat an animal.  It is therefore illegal for a physiotherapist to treat an animal without prior consent of a vet. We will request consent from your vet before assessing your horse for the first time.
